“Decatur High does a fantastic job of preparing our students for college. The IB and AP classes available are challenging, and my son feels more than prepared for his freshman year in college. The faculty and administration are supportive, and do a great job of encouraging the students to excel. Community service and extra curricular activities, as well as academics, are encouraged. My children have been involved in robotics, chorus, band, sports, clubs, student council, physics competition, and there are countless other options for the students. The social diversity at Decatur High also helps to prepare our students for the real world. We just received the state of Alabama safe schools award again, and we do a great job in Decatur, AL!”

“Fairly good...used to be a lot better. The big weakness is its math department. My children were not prepared for college math. A couple of math teachers need to really teach or just quit or retire! But there are also some very good teachers here. Technology department excellent. Lots of cliques among students, actually not as bad as it used to be.”
